Tesco Christmas campaign offers UK a shot of much-needed political stability

Tesco has pledged to help straighten out the nation’s finances this Christmas with a pledge to deliver an affordable festive season for everyone in the style of a party political broadcast.

The market-leading grocer’s Christmas advert features a broadcast from the ‘Christmas Party,’ setting out its manifesto to #StandForJoy by helping people celebrate in style, irrespective of budget.

Tackling the cost of living crisis, the campaign seeks to reassure worried households that a Scrooge-like Christmas can be averted, with mince pies and Brussels sprouts still on the menu.

Alessandra Bellini, chief customer officer at Tesco, said: “We understand that it is a tough time at the moment with everyone’s finances under pressure, but we also know that people are looking forward to Christmas – in fact, our research shows that there is even more excitement around it than usual.

“Through our campaign, we take a look at those moments during the festive period that unite us all – including the delight of eating delicious desserts, sitting around a table together with loved ones, movie nights in our PJs and even the inevitable confusion around bin day – to put a smile on people’s faces as we prepare for a season of meaningful celebrations.”

Inspired by an Opinium study of 2,000 adults that suggested 36% believe this year a happy Christmas is more important than ever, the campaign sees the retailer climb on to its soapbox to promote its value offerings.

Developed by BBH and MJZ Production, the TV advert is set to the pulse-pounding soundtrack of Europe’s The Final Countdown.
