    BBC invites audiences off the sofa and on to the screen to mark its centenary

    The BBC is marking a century of broadcasting by inviting audiences to get off the sofa and on to the screen by granting ‘15 seconds of fame’ to lucky hopefuls.

    Television addicts will join the cast of their favorite shows to celebrate the anniversary by ordering a pint in the Queen Vic, stepping in as an alien in Doctor Who or showing off their green fingers on Gardeners’ World. No acting skill is needed for the bit parts, which include lying prone on a hospital bed for Casualty.

    A campaign promoting the initiative has been developed by BBC Creative, introducing audiences to the concept during a special edition of The One Show hosted by comedian Phil Wang, renamed this week as The 100 Show. 

    The One Show host Ronan Keating said: “It’s great for The One Show to be announcing the BBC’s ’15 seconds of fame’ initiative. What a fabulous opportunity it is for viewers to get the chance to star in one of their favorite shows, and I can’t wait to get some tips for everyone from Jane Slaughter, aka Tracey the Barmaid in EastEnders, next week.”

    A campaign film communicating the opportunity will display across television, radio and iPlayer, with a TikTok challenge adding to the fun by inviting fans of the Beeb to post their ‘auditions.’
