Maya Jama launches McDonald’s McCrispy chicken burger

Star-studded spot from Leo Burnett also features Keith Lemon, Michael Dapaah and Elz the Witch.

McDonald’s has come out all guns blazing to celebrate the launch of its McCrispy chicken burger throughout the British Isles.

The menu addition is revealed by television presenter Maya Jama, who expresses her love for a good chicken burger by gatecrashing diners across the nation to pass commentary on an office lunch, a drive-by dinner and top-deck sandwich sharing.

Fun-filled messaging sees Jama bring some glamor to a grandson being driven to university for the first time – a moment he will remember forever thanks to a McCrispy send-off.

The star-studded cast includes comedian Keith Lemon, who is depicted munching on a McDonald’s while watching himself on the small screen. Elsewhere, rapper Michael Dapaah and YouTuber Elz take a break from singing and gaming with some much-needed scran.

Steve Howells, marketing director at McDonald’s UK & Ireland, said: “McCrispy is our most exciting chicken launch in years, with chicken-loving celebrities giving our new crispier, crunchier chicken burger their seal of approval.”

Mark Elwood, executive creative director at Leo Burnett UK, added: “With references that appeal to a wide audience, the McCrispy campaign ties in various aspects of UK culture: from enjoying a Maccies at your desk to tucking in during the drive to uni… the ad aims to resonate with all UK chicken lovers.”

Media activity is supported by a package of events and sampling to give people a taste of the McCrispy – a program that culminates in a partnership with the Mobo Awards in November. Throughout all this, print ads across The Metro, The Sun and Daily Star will carry the messaging further in a media planning and buying campaign orchestrated by OMD.

Earlier this month, McDonald’s rebranded its UK Twitter account as ’Fries Claims’ for customers to report the theft of their chips by wayward fingers.
