British music journalism publication New Musical Express (NME) has increased its presence in Asia Pacific after launching into South East Asia.

The launch into Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines comes a year after NME launched in Australia in 2019. The website franchise in APAC will be handled by Bandlab Technologies.

NME’s Asia headquarters will be in Singapore, with the regional editorial team led by Iliyas Ong, former editor of Time Out Singapore, alongside Karen Gwee, former editor of Bandwagon and writer at NPR. The editorial team in Singapore will manage journalists across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.

What will NME Asia do?

  • The Asia site will deliver daily music and pop culture news from Asia and around the world, weekly New Music Monday features and definitive guides on new music, gaming, film and television. Every month there will be a regional artist spotlight.

 

  • NME claims after expanding into Australia in 2019 it now attracts over half a million monthly unique readers Down Under. It recently revived print in Australia, with a monthly edition. There are no plans for a print edition in SEA.
