Dr Mumbo was just browsing t’internet and checking his Twitter feed when he came across Cheryl Goh’s profile page.

The Grab group vice-president of marketing has an interesting tagline: “I drink, I dive, I dream.”

It made Dr Mumbo think back to the speech Goh gave at last year’s Tech in Asia conference, where she recounted the first time she met the Grab founder Anthony Tan.

The coming together was actually a job interview in a restaurant/bar. Tan was running an hour late, due to his car breaking down, and so told her to wait for him and order what she wanted in the meantime.

By the time he arrived some 60 minutes later, Goh had consumed four mojitos (check out the audio at 10.08 minutes in to hear the full story in all its glory).

Thankfully, the interview went well and Goh was on hand to give Tan a lift home at the end of the night.

The only fly in the ointment was they had a “minor accident” on the drive back, as Goh explains.

Still, all’s well that ends well. The pair went on to become a dominant force in ride-sharing and marketing.

Dr M will drink to that.
