According to the company, in under five minutes, Snapchat users can create bespoke Snapchat Lenses for all manner of special occasions including weddings, birthdays, baby showers, hen and stag dos and more. 150 templates and lenses can be personalised with text and emoji, date, time and location — with Lenses starting at £5.99.
The company continues to tweak its offering in the face of continued competition from Instagram Stories. The product of the Facebook-owned company has seen fast adoption with Mark Zuckerberg announcing in November on an earnings call, that Instagram Stories has 300 million daily active users. Snapchat has an audience of over 187 million daily active users, 60 million of which are in Europe.
Though the recent Snapchat redesign was met with mixed reviews, the company’s Bitmoji and Bitmoji Deluxe product have been successful with consumers with the latter taking the top spot as most downloaded app in the world in 2017. For its part, the Snapchat app was the second most downloaded app, according to the company and December data from Apple.
The new Snapchat custom lens offering is available on the web and iOS, with an Android version coming soon.
