    The Washington Post to open bureau in Hong Kong “in early 2018?


    America daily newspaper giant The Washington Post has announced plans to open a bureau in Hong Kong in early 2018.

    The media company has recently expanded its international coverage with the addition of bureaus in Paris, Istanbul, and Brussels.

    The news outlet is recruiting one more correspondent, who will be based in the Hong Kong bureau, to cover stories in Southeast Asia.

    It is also investing in wider coverage of Europe by setting up a new bureau in Rome, and that of Latin America by naming a second Mexico City-based correspondent. With the addition of three international reporting positions, the media company will have 27 reporters based in 19 foreign locations.

    “As a growing number of overseas readers turn to The Washington Post, we see potential to reach an even larger audience interested in deep, nuanced international reporting,” said Martin Baron, executive editor of The Washington Post.

    Its foreign Editor Douglas Jehl added that he Rome-based correspondent will bolster our coverage of Europe at a time when migration, extremism, and nationalism are reshaping the region’s politics.
